Instrumental Music

Band – Band classes focus on the study of traditional band literature, mariachi styles, as well as transcriptions of great orchestral literature. Students will advance in technical skill, stylistic understanding of historical background, and aesthetic awareness through the study and performance of quality music literature. The instrumental music teacher will help students on the instrument, which the students choose initially, that will provide the most beneficial educational experience for the individual. Performances at school and community events are an integral part of the growing program. Beginners or students who have played before are all welcome! Instruments are provided. Instruments that may be chosen for this class are: flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, French Horn, trumpet, baritone, trombone, tuba or percussion (drums/keyboards/aux instruments)

Orchestra – Orchestra class focuses on the study of contemporary string orchestra literature, mariachi styles, as well as transcriptions of great orchestral literature. Students will advance in technical skill, stylistic understanding of historical background, and aesthetic awareness through the study and performance of quality music literature. The instrumental music teacher will help students on the instrument, which the students choose initially, that will provide the most beneficial educational experience for the individual. Performances at school and community events are an integral part of the growing program. Beginners or students who have played before are all welcome! Instruments are provided. Instruments that may be chose for this class are: violin, viola, cello and string bass.

Beginning Piano –  This course explores music through the medium of piano performance. Beginners must follow the book from the beginning and additional music in sequential order. New concepts and skills are taught that build upon each other. Students will explore their creativity and expressing themselves in a positive way.  Students will play and listen to a variety of musical styles and cultures brought in by the instructor and the students. You will be an independent learner. If you have disciplined practice everyday, then you are guaranteed to be successful!

Advanced Piano – The Advanced Piano class is comprised of hardworking, dedicated students that are interested in advancing their study of the piano. Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory, musical reading/comprehension and composition. Students will develop an ability to constructively communicate about the artistic world. Opportunities to perform will be available throughout the school year.

Beginning Guitar – The purpose of the guitar class (acoustic only) is to introduce fundamentals of music and guitar playing to students with little or no experience in music or playing guitar. I hope that students will take what they learn from this class and continue a lifelong desire to play music, as well as playing both TAB, chords and regular notation on guitar. Remember, this is a beginning guitar class. Instruments are provided, but you may bring your own.

Advanced Guitar – The Advanced Guitar (acoustic primarily) class is comprised of hardworking, dedicated students that are interested in advancing their study of the guitar. Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory, musical reading/comprehension and composition through their instrument. Students will develop an ability to constructively communicate about the artistic world. Opportunities to perform will be available throughout the school year. Instruments are provided, but you may bring your own.

Music Production – Have you ever wanted to figure out how to create music? This class will go into concepts used in music sequencing, notation and recording. Students will create music using computers and online music software, drum machines, and other tools. Students interested in the current methods of music creation and production should consider taking this course. No prior musical experience is needed, however, having some experience on an instrument or voice is helpful. Students will also learn how to more clearly articulate thoughts and opinions about music, in both oral and written mediums.

Drumline – Drumline has a class of its own to focus on technique specific to the marching percussion idiom. Anyone can sign up for drumline. Placement on instruments is based upon an audition as well as the students attitude, work ethic and what best fits the ensemble. Students will perform on their instruments with correct technique in and outside of an ensemble. Students are encouraged to also sign up for Band to learn concert percussion instruments and technique. Instruments included in Drumline are: marching snare, tenors, bass drums, and cymbals. Instruments will be provided.
